Week 8 A Vida é Boa!!!!

Now it came to pass that in the latter end of the 7th year of the reign of Obama, it being the 19th day of the 12th month 2016 years after the birth of Christ, I Elder Johnson did write somewhat concerning my past week. And now these are the words which I did write,

And now after I Elder Johnson had had a very eventful P-day, I did return to mine own house. And upon returning to mine own house I did change my clothes and did go out onto the streets of Cambé, Brazil and I did contact people.  And it came to pass that we did contact 20 and 4 persons in the space of not many hours.

Now it did come to pass that on the morning I did rise early that I might prepare to go find and to teach people. But behold I did have a great pain in my head, and also in my throat and I had pains and aches throughout my whole body. Yea, and there were great rumblings and pains in the lower half of my body insomuch that it did cause me to sit upon my uncle johns firing an AK-47 for many long painful periods of time.

And it came to pass that as I was thus conversing with my uncle john, behold my comp. did call the mission pres. wife and did tell her concerning my pains and sufferings. And it came to pass thet they did worry much for they both supposed that I had Dungue fever, according to my many symptoms.

Now the presidnet's wife said unto my comp, Go ye therefore and take Elder Johnson to a small hospital which is but a small distance away and see ye if he has Dungue. Now when she has said these things my comp did say unto me: Behold a member of the church awaits outside and he will take us in his chariot to a nearby hospital.

Now after we had been shown into the doc's office he did examine me. And after much examination he did say unto me that I did not have dungue but that I had an infected throat, and he did give me some pills. Now I will tell you somewhat concerning these pills, for inasmuch as I did take them my sickness did not leave my body but the zits that were upon my face did leave.

And now on the morrow when my comp had seen that my sickness had worsened he called the miss. pres. wife. And when she had heard all that he had to say she did call my zone leader and did say unto him: Behold take E. Johnson into the great city Londrina to a larger hospital and see if he has dungue!!!

And now once arriving at the hospital they did take some blood to test and did place an iv in my arm. And behold the iv did remove much of the pain that I felt. And now after many hours the doc did return and did say that I did not have dungue but that my pains and sufferings were caused by tap water that I did drink. And they did forbid me to drink any water that came from a tap filtered or not.

And behold, once I did return home I found that some safe water to drink had been sent to my home. And I was sick in total for 3 and 1/2 days.

And it came to pass that on Saturday, Raissa, she being 11 years of age, having desires to come unto Christ and be baptized did come to the church at an appointed time and I did baptize her.

Now behold, these are the words that I did write concerning my week.

Week 7 Awsome Week in Brazil!

Friday, December 11 2016

I have good news and bad news!!!

First, my feet hurt worse than they ever have in all the years of my mountain adventures in life! That is the bad news. The good news is that this next Friday (I believe that is the 16th of this beautiful month) I will have the awesome opportunity to baptize 2 young ladies!!! One is 9 and the other is 11!!! I am sooooooooo excited. However, I am not excited that it all has to be in Portuguese (I am more than a little nervous).

The other good news is that the owner of our house finally figured out how to turn on the water!!!!! (No more showering with buckets!) I cleaned the house really nice today! I bet that it is the first time that this house has truly been cleaned in a few years. YUCK! My house smells nice now. :)

I learned a little bit about my comps. past life. He is the only member of the church in his family and his family tried to get him to stay home from his mission by offering him cars (his family is rich). And he was a sniper in the Brazilian military with the rank of captain. The scary thing about him is he has killed 189 people!

I have done a ton of walking in the past week. My comp. calculated about 21 miles the other day. Any weight I got in the ctm will be gone soon.

Love you all

Week 6 First Week in the Mission Field!!

Monday, December 5, 2016

This week has been the longest week in the history of me!! It has felt like a million years. I have done a ton of walking and praying and more walking and even more praying.

My companion insists on speaking English.  (He is from Northern Brazil and wants to learn English from me!  But I need to learn Portuguese from him!) He gets very upset when I speak Portuguese but I keep at it.

I got my first baptism date set!!!!! My comp and I are opening a new area and the work is going great!!! I walk several miles a day up and down hills and my feet feel like painful blobs. We had ten people promise that they would come to church but they didnt come. I am not sad but continue to be happy at all times. I find that I am happy even when rejected or things fall through.

LOVE U ALL

PS We are in a poor area, and I get to shower with ice cold water from a bucket!

Week 4

Howdy all!!!!

This is Élder Johnson way down south in São Paulo Brazil in the CTM!!!
P-Day is a day early because Elder Runland from the quorum of the 12 will be here tomorrow! Everyone is soooooo excited! On Sunday we had Elder Nelson of the 70 here and he gave an awesome priesthood lesson and later an awesome talk.

I spent a few days sick with a sinus and ear infection. I only spent one day in bed when the doc. told me to. On Saturday my district is being plopped out in the middle of downtown São Palo to hand out Books of Mormon!!!

One of the sisters in the district spent a day in the hospital and has to be in a wheel chair for a week! She has a pinched nerve  in her back. :/

I only have 1 1/2 weeks left!!! It is so crazy at how fast time flies!!!! Seems like I was typing an update yesterday! Next P-day will be my last in the CTM. Wow! I can´t believe it!
Well time flies, got to go!

Week 3

Oi!!!(hi in Portuguese)

This is Élder Johnson at the São Paulo CTM in Brazil!!
Not much happened this week other than the same old same old.
We did get a ton of rain the other day! Imagine it raining cats and dogs for a few hrs with constant lightning. Today is the first truly hot and humid day.

Oh I almost forgot! Something cool did happen this week.

1. I and the rest of my district were dropped off in the middle of downtown São Paulo and were given 3 Book of Mormon each!!!! I gave out 2!!!! I had a gift of tounges moment when a boy my age came up and asked for one, he told me that when he looked at us he had a good feeling and felt like he needed our book. I TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD HIM!!!!! I stood there for a second not able to comprehend what had just happened and wasn't able to understand much after that.

 2. My trio (3 missionaries together) was split. =( A visa waiter from Provo MTC came. It is now just me and Élder Fattaleh.

3. One of the instructors asked me to write my testimony in English for her because she has a friend who is from the states who she wanted to give a Book of Mormon to. About 2 hrs after I gave her my testimony she came in and told all of us (my district and I) that he had accepted it and was really excited. The next day she came back and said that he was reading the Book of Mormon. And then the next day she said that he wants to meet me! I am going to go meet him later today.

Love you all

Week 2

Friday, November 4, 2016

IT IS P-DAY!!!!
And do you know what that means?!!!!
It means wake up at 5:15 shower, eat, drive 30 min to the temple, do a session, come home(CTM) email for 45min, eat lunch, go out on the streets for a few hrs and buy stuff, come home and nap. Eat dinner, exercise, relax, have district study, and go to bed. This week has been crazy fast!! The weeks since I have got here have flown by faster than any weeks I can remember. My days are crazy!! Imagine sitting for about 15 hrs a day praying that you don't get blood clots in your legs from not moving, and studying harder than you have ever in your life.

I am really excited for tomorrow!!! My district is being plopped out in the middle of São Paulo and we are given 3 hrs and 3 Book of Mormon to place. The Portuguese has been coming slow and hard. But it is coming. It will come, I have faith that it will.

Week 1

Howdy!!!

This is Elder Johnson typing from what is told to me to be the biggest city in the world.
Beleive me it really looks like the biggest city in the world from both land and air. The flights were good other than the last flight that was supposed to be 9 1/2 hrs was 13 1/2 due to the fact that the landing gear didn´t go up for the first few hrs.

After a long sleepless night we arrived in São Paulo and had a really long first day. 41 hrs after waking up in AZ, I was able to go to bed in Brazil. This week has been fun and long and realllllly hard. Over the course of that day 25 USA missionaries gathered up and we were made into a zone. My district is made up of 6 elders + me and 2 sisters. All us elders are going to Londrina. We are all really close. We have 16 hr days that are really long. We are so tired that by the end of the day it is really hard to keep our eyes open.

Jeffry R Holland's grandson is here at the CTM, he is becoming a good friend.
I am making a lot of friends among instructors and missionaries. The food here is reallllly reallllly good. Only bad thing is that there are hardly any greens. A lot of meat and carbs. The other hard thing is they only serve a little water and then it is mostly pop and 8 kinds of awesome juice. I am really trying to watch my meat aND CARB CONSUMPTION AND WHENEVER THERE ARE VEGGIES i DOWN ON THEM. sorry bout the caps.

We have 50 min of excercise and I love it because it is a time that I am able to get rid of some of the stress you get from the CTM(that is what it is called here).

Today is the first Pday and we were up and out the door by 6:30 and went to the temple for a few hrs. I was able to be a witness at the baptisms and two elders from my district were baptizing. I saw some old dude at the temple that said he knew dad when he was going to byui before his mission. He just walked up to me and asked if I was the son of Ryan Johnson. He said to tell my dad hi but dissappeared before I could ask for his name. All I know is that he worked with the byui track.

Well love you all and love to hear from you.
P.S please send questions and emails in two different emails. Don´t expect a answer to your question for about a week.
P- day is Friday

First Email Home: Safe at the MTC!

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

Love you mom. We landed in Sao Poulo about 3 hrs ago and are now at the MTC. The flight from Atlanta to Sao Poulo was a little longer then expected, instead of being 9hrs 35 min it was 13hrs 45min. I am very tired and only got about 1 hr of sleep.
I flew from Tucson to Salt Lake and was able to talk to one of the flight attendants for about a third of the flight about the church. When I got to Salt Lake Uncle Aaron found me right as I was coming off the plane. If he had not been there I am afraid that I would have prob. missed the next flight. At salt lake I met up with 5 other Elders and sisters. When we arrived at Atlanta we met up with about 13-15 more. 6 of us Elders are going to Londrina, and two are going to where Orrin is going. I think I saw a toucan today!!! It was a big black bird with a colorful beak. I also saw a very large red and green bird. I won´t be able to send pictures until I leave the MTC.

Love you all,
--Elder Johnson =)
